Recycled Greenline aluminum to become the standard material for building system products
In the future, all Purso building system products will be made using Greenline aluminum. Manufacturing it saves up to 95% of energy as compared to the making of primary aluminum. Making the transition to fully recycled aluminum is a natural step that is well in line with our responsibility strategy, says Tommi Kahiluoto, Purso Business Director for Building Systems.
Halving its emissions, Purso is a circular economy pioneer
Purso began recycling aluminum at its own smelter over four decades ago. Our product line for recycled Greenline® aluminum is among the first in the world. Aluminum maintains its properties even when recycled, guaranteeing a small carbon footprint.
Our recycled Greenline aluminum is used in all our business segments. Moving forward, our building system product customers no longer need to specifically request for recycled aluminum, as it will be the standard material for such products now. All building system product profiles extruded into inventory have been made with Greenline since the spring of 2024, and the transitional period ends in early 2025.
– Using recycled Greenline® aluminum sits well with our strategy, which is taking us into an ever more responsible direction. Sustainability needs to be the goal in all building, says Kahiluoto.
Towards low-carbon construction
Buildings are among the most significant energy users and emission sources. Many environmental certificates steer towards reduced energy consumption. Purso Oy is responding to stricter regulations by using nothing but fully recycled Greenline aluminum in all of its building system products from now on.
– Low carbon products are more and more a requirement for any construction project, and we want to help our customers make good choices easily, Kahiluoto says.
Demand for recycled aluminum is growing
The benefits of recycled aluminum are undeniable. For instance, the energy needed for re-smelting is only about 5% of that needed for the making of primary aluminum.
Many building system customers have already begun using Greenline aluminum exclusively. One such customer is Inlook, the master of interior building, who has been ordering only recycled aluminum products since the fall of 2022.
The demand for recycled aluminum has been growing in recent years. The design capital of Denmark for example is home to several residential and parking buildings that feature the NAPSU system, which is made fully with recycled aluminum.
