Haukkala Day Care Center

In the daycare center that opened in August 2024, there are many local products: both the doors and the lamps of the building come from the factory in our own village. The daycare center combines the activities of early childhood education and preschool education in the Siuro and Linnavuori regions under one roof. The Haukkala daycare center was named after the farm that was once located there. The daycare center has the capacity of more than 100 places for early childhood education.

Joyful door colors

Pekka Pietilä (Architect SAFA, Finnish Consulting Group) says that the choice of aluminium doors was obvious:

– Experience shows that aluminium doors are durable and maintenance-free.

The idea was to make the doors the color highlights of the inner yard of the building. Pietilä says that in the working group, the idea arose that each door could be of a different color.

– In this way, children can easily find their own group rooms, when they remember the color of the door.

Timeless wood and aluminium

The Haukkala daycare center is a one-storey building, mainly made of wood. It has been designed in a user-oriented manner, says Pirre Koivuluoto, City of Nokia’s Early Childhood Education Department, who has been interviewed along with colleagues during the planning phase. For example, every six group’s premises have their own hallways, which facilitate the arrival of children and the daytime outdoor activities. Special attention has been paid to the acoustics and ergonomics of the premises, says Koivuluoto. Purso’s ultra-isolated exterior doors keep out any street and outdoor noises, while the P50 and P80 series doors prevent sound leakage between the different rooms.

Purso products support the city’s carbon-neutral targets

The selection of building materials and products for the Haukkala day care center has taken into account that the City of Nokia is aiming for carbon neutrality by 2030. The structure of the building is made of solid wood combined with Purso’s extremely energy-efficient exterior doors. SNEP® Aari products illuminate the interior. All Purso products are designed, developed and manufactured in Siuro, and the recycled aluminium comes from our own remelt plant in Ikaalinen. From start to finish, emissions from domestic products are low. The environmental impact over the entire product life cycle is also minimized thanks to the durability of the products.
