100 % recycled Greenline aluminium ensures a low carbon footprint
Purso is a pioneer in the circular economy
Purso Greenline is one of the world’s first recyclable aluminium product lines. The demand for recycled aluminium is constantly growing, and no wonder – we live in an era of environmental initiatives. Aluminium is an excellent material to recycle, as it retains its qualities. The benefits of recycled aluminium are undeniable. Its use significantly reduces carbon dioxide emissions. All of Purso’s sustainability measures can be found in our Corporate Sustainability Repot.
Greenline is equivalent to primary aluminium
Greenline aluminium meets all the same requirements as primary aluminum – only the carbon footprint is lower. The amount of energy required for remelting is only about 5 % compared to the production of primary aluminium.
According to the EPD environmental statement, the total carbon footprint is only 1.8 kg CO₂ eq/kg. The corresponding figure for primary aluminium is on average 11.1 kg CO₂ eq/kg. Compared to Chinese aluminium; the difference is several times higher. And we don’t use mined bauxite.
Greenline continues to grow in popularity. For example, Inlook, a Finnish interior construction master, has switched to using only recycled aluminium.
Aluminium is completely and forever recyclable
We melt and refine the material for reuse as raw material for products. Greenline aluminium consists of externally sourced, end-of-life aluminium scrap. In addition to re-melted raw material from industry, we use scrap material from our own extrusion plant to produce billets.
All aluminium alloys used in our production are recyclable. This means that Purso’s aluminium profiles are 100 % recyclable even at the end of the product’s life cycle.
Raw material from our own remelt plant in Finland
Purso has been recycling aluminium since the early 1980s and has its own remelt plant located in central Finland. Continuous investment in sustainable development has significantly reduced the company’s overall carbon footprint.
Aluminium is given a new life when it’s melted, alloyed and cast into billets. They are refined to high quality and European EU standards in a carefully controlled process.
Innovative applications are constantly increasing
Today, recycled Greenline aluminium is used in all our business areas. For example, SNEP® by Purso luminaires’ frames and fixing materials are made from recycled material, as are many profiles and further processed products.
In the future, we’ll also manufacture all our building system products from Greenline aluminium, which will make it easier for our clients to meet the new requirements of Finland’s or other countries’ Land Use and Building Act.
Purso Greenline certification as a guarantee for recycling
Clients using recycled aluminium receive a Purso Greenline certificate with their order. This guarantees that the product is made from recycled aluminium from start to finish. Energy saving, recyclability and environmental values show that you are acting responsibly. At the same time, your recycling rate will improve. You can use the certificate in your own marketing.
Responsibility through the decades
Purso, which is halving its emissions, has invested more than 11 million euros in projects that significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Our Finnish supply chain is also making a strong contribution to reducing the CO₂ footprint.
Purso’s long-standing commitment to environmental responsibility is also reflected in our ISO 14001 environmental certification, which we have held since 2002. Our aluminium products also have a product-specific Environmental Product Declaration (EDP), and we are the largest taxpay in our local community, Nokia, Finland.
